GATHERERS EARN GOLD; GRINDING GOLD EARLY ON...

So, here’s where you’re at: you’re successfully leveling your first toon from 1-55 to unlock your Death Knight, who will (or won’t, if you choose to create your own model or follow another) eventually become your main.

So you’re rolling this Paladin (again, if you stick with my choices) up to Level 55. You have no intention of starting him/her up as a bag-maker in the tailoring profession, because, let’s face it; you’re going to stop playing the Pally for quite a while once your Death Knight becomes available.

So what can you do during these levels if you’re not concerned about leveling professions? What are some of my tips and tricks to earning gold during this leveling process? Well, it can all come down to one word: GATHER.

GATHERING: IT’S MORE THAN A PROFESSION

From the very early on, you will loot different kinds of meats and cloths after kills. Both are used in production professions (cooking and tailoring, subsequently). Instead of selling them to a vendor, mail them to your AH-toon to sell on the market. I would resist the temptation to level up First Aid (which would use these cloths) since Paladins can self-heal. Auction of your meats and cloth.

GATHERING PROFESSIONS: SKINNING

As I mentioned in a previous post, skinning is my favorite gathering profession because it is the only one of the three (mining, herbalism) that does not require you to go out of your questing path. You kill, you skin, you move on. You can collect stacks of 20 leather in bunches and send them to your AH-toon for the market.

GATHERING PROFESSIONS: MINING

If you’re hell-bent on turning your 1-55 Paladin into a full-time gatherer (taking on two gathering professions instead of selecting a production profession), I recommend mining over herbalism because of the duality of the profession. First, you can sell stacks of ore on the market. You could also sell it in smelted bar form. Do your research and determine which will sell better on your realm’s market: the ore or the bar.

GATHERING AN ACCIDENTAL GOLD MINE

You’ve learned there are “rares” in the game—the NPCs with a silver dragon (or a gold one) around them—well, there are also rare drops! Shocking!

Your bags are full. You’re ready to unload and collect some gold. You mail your meats, cloth, leather, ore and bars over to your AH-toon. You sell your grays to a vendor. You notice you’ve got a few things left in the bags that you’re not quite sure what to do with… Sometimes your leftovers will be a rare equipment drop. Other times, it might be a rare profession recipe or pattern. Either way, you’ll want to head on over to The Undermine Journal and check out your loot. I typically do this despite what the tooltips of my scans show. I enjoy seeing what drops sell for cross-realm, too—in case my realm happens to be full of the less educated.

So, to recap:

-          GATHERING: MEATS & CLOTH SELL ON THE AH for PROFESSION LEVELING
-          GATHERING: SKINNING IS THE EASIEST GATHERING PROF
-          GATHERING: MINING LEADS TO DUAL-FOLD METHODS OF EARNING
-          GATHERING: DO YOUR RESEARCH: FIND OUT IF YOU HIT A GOLD MINE!

If you have any questions about how to grind out some gold from Levels 1-55, let me know! If you are looking for specific places to farm, I recommend heading on over to wow-professions.com or 20kleveling.com (for a purchasable guide including farming spots and advanced reading on many subject matters).

Now, get out, get leveling and get to gathering for gold!
